How to Unroll and Install Your New Floor Mat

Posted on

To make shipping and handling more efficient, we roll our mats before sending them out.

Our floor mats are primarily made from vinyl, which can take on the "memory" of the rolled shape, especially if it's cold out. No worries though, just unroll the mat when you receive it and allow a few hours for it to properly flatten out. Add some weight to the corners to speed the process.

Thicker mats may take a little longer, but in general everything should be flattened out within 24 hours. If it's cold outside, we recommend allowing it to warm up inside for about day before unrolling. This is just a precaution against any possible cracking if the mat has become rigid from the cold.

Cold weather conditions

If it's cold when your mat was delivered, always allow your mat to warm up to room temperature before unrolling.

When unrolling, don’t force it open. As it warms up, it will naturally flatten out as the material becomes more relaxed. We recommend allowing about a day to warm up before opening and unrolling.

Tips for faster unrolling/flattening

  • Place the mat in the sunlight or in a small, warm room if possible. Once the mat reaches 80 degrees it will be able to relax much easier.
  • Place weight on the areas where the mat is not yet flattened out. Heat + weight is the best method.
  • You can use a hair dryer to heat up any stubborn parts of the mat that aren’t lying flat. This is usually only necessary for thicker mats in cold climates.
  • Place weight on the areas where the mat is not yet flattened out. Heat + weight is the best method.
  • For super fast setup, run some hot water in the bathtub and place the rolled mat in. Within 15 minutes it will be nice and relaxed, allowing you to unroll it flat.

As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
